Make This Puppy Lucky: Nikko the Hound Mix

Nikko is a champion lizard chaser. Does your home need exactly that?

Looking for smarts, looks, and personality, all in one adorable doggie package? Then feast your eyes on Nikko! This sweet and affectionate little smarty-pants loves to learn, and she would love a forever home that would help her achieve full potential, whether as a therapy dog, a canine actress, or an all-around family companion! Won’t you let her be your shining star?

Name: Nikko.

Age and sex: 2-year-old female.

Breed: Hound mix.

Size and weight: Medium and 41 pounds.

Coat: Short and tri-colored.

Location: CARE For Animals in Arkansas.

Activity level: Medium.

Likes: Car rides, being outside, chasing lizards, sunbathing, learning new tricks, snuggling, and being a lap dog.

Dislikes: Loud noises.

Training: Nikko is a graduate of the Paws in Prison program, where she received AKC Canine Good Citizen training. As a result, she is house and crate trained, and knows a slew of basic commands.

Yard requirements: Although Nikko enjoys being outside and would love her own fenced-in yard, it’s not mandatory as long as she receives daily walks and exercise.

Kids: Loves them!

Dogs and cats: Nikko does fine around other dogs as long as they are her size or bigger. Due to her strong prey drive, she is not good with small dogs or cats.

Health issues: Nikko is prone to skin issues caused by a flea allergy, which is easily treated with a special shampoo.

Her story: Nikko was found tied to the door of a vet’s office, suffering from a terrible, painful skin condition. After receiving treatment at a local animal shelter, she was rescued by CARE and placed in the Paws in Prison program.

Her ideal forever home: Nikko would love to live with a person, couple, or family who could give her lots of love and attention, and continue her training. She would do great as an only pet or with a canine sibling her size or larger.

Other details prospective adopters should know: Nikko is incredibly intelligent and shows great potential to learn advanced tricks, commands, and skills.
