Anyone with a mutt is probably curious about their pup’s exact genealogical makeup. So the inquisitive minds at BuzzFeed decided to film a short video featuring three dogs and their parents finding out exactly who (or “what”) they are.

To test the canine DNA, the participants gingerly collect a saliva sample using a cheek swab. Two weeks later (mere seconds in YouTube time), they receives the results. But first, we get to see what the pet parents had guessed their dog’s breeds were before the truth is revealed.

Bell’s parents were convinced she had some Beagle and Dachshund in her bloodlines. Well, she’s actually a mix of Chihuahua, American Staffordshire Terrier and Cocker Spaniel. Another woman thought her dog, Jimi, was mostly terrier, with some Schnauzer courtesy of his beard. Turns out, he’s Miniature Poodle, Chihuahua and Cocker Spaniel.

As evidenced in this adorable, 2.5-minute video, the little historical mystery that comes with having a rescue is all part of the excitement of adopting a dog. But being able to confirm or correct your suspicions is equally fun. And as Jimi’s mom noted, “It doesn’t matter what breed it is, it’s just love.”
