Riley Dawg Comforts When a Real Dog Can’t

Makers of the weighted plush also donate $5 from every purchase to Pet Partners.

What a wonderful world it would be if there were comfort pets at every turn. But for a variety of reasons — allergies and restrictions, just to name two — not everyone has access to their soothing presence. Enter Riley Dawg, a weighted plush dog designed to have a calming and relaxing effect on anyone who holds it.

“RiLEYDAWG is designed to be a little heavier than the average plush animal. Studies have found that weighted items stimulate deep pressure receptors in our body and activate the parasympathetic nervous system. While holding the weighted RiLEYDAWG and petting the soft plush animal, it can have a calming and relaxing effect on a person,” states Mary Kim Kaylor, a registered licensed occupational therapist, on behalf of the maker.

The plush was inspired by the real Riley,a Coton de Tulear. His human, Diane Schweisguth, had hoped to become a Pet Partners therapy team with him, but as she says, “Riley has a mind of his own, so that was not to be.”

Riley Dawg regularly costs $49, but a Mother’s Day special gets you $5 off through May 9. Schweisguth also donates $5 of the purchase price to Pet Partners. Visit for more info and to buy the plush.
