Pregnant Stray Cat Gets Rescued Just in Time to Give Birth

Sugar now has five kittens, and they are all adorable!

On Jan. 18, animal control officers in Virginia took a pregnant stray cat to the pound. Named Sugar, she went into foster care thanks to Kelsey Levine with Cat Adoption & Rescue Efforts (CARE), a nonprofit “dedicated to the rehabilitation, care, and adoption of cats and kittens rescued from euthanizing animal shelters.”

Sugar had five kittens the next morning and has proven herself a good mother. She worries when one of them cries and makes sure the kitten is OK.

“If the kittens were born at the pound, they would have been susceptible to infectious diseases like upper respiratory, which likely would have done them in, so we are glad we got her into a foster home just in time! The mama cat and her babies are now doing well in foster care,” Levine told Love Meow.
