Going on 20 years, West Paw Design has become well known for offering safe and eco-friendly dog and cat products to persnickety pet parents. And when the earth-conscious company recently released a luxuriously soft mat, it not only featured American-made textiles and IntelliLoft® fiber and fill derived from recycled plastic, all of the leftover materials went into new plush toys for pups and kitties to enjoy. How’s that for intelligent design?

The result is the Montana Collection, filled with all sorts of creatures, from stretchy snakes and chipper squirrels to busy beavers and lovable lobsters. The fuzzy caterpillar toy ($7.95) is especially for cats and is stuffed with premium, USDA-certified organically grown catnip. What’s more, the wiggly worm has a tinkling bell inside its soft, stretchy body that’ll drive cats crazy — in a good way, of course. Whether your kitty likes to cuddle in a corner or play throughout the house, she’ll adore this affordable handcrafted toy made from soft sheepskin. The little guy comes in two colors — robin and wine — and is non-toxic for safe and secure play.

Best of all, buying these upcycled playthings helps keep plastic bottles from ending up in landfills. In fact, West Paw’s IntelliLoft material has saved an impressive 12.6 million bottles from such a fruitless fate.
