Lucky Puppies of the Week: Missy and Sophie the Boston Terriers

Missy and Sophie came into Kate Anderson’s life almost overnight, and now she can’t imagine life without them.

Kate Anderson was grieving the loss of her beloved fur baby, Bosco, when a friend told her about Missy and Sophie, two Boston Terriers in desperate need of a forever home. Here’s how these adorable little girls helped their new mommy learn to love and laugh again.

“I lost my beloved Bosco in November 2014 due to a long battle with a pseudomonas bacteria that we couldn’t seem to eradicate from his ear canal. Then out of the blue in early March 2015, a friend called and asked if I’d gotten another Boston yet. I told her I hadn’t even thought about it, due to lots of personal issues I had going on, and that I was still missing my boy and best friend. She then proceeded to tell me about two Bostons in need of an immediate home. I had about a day to commit, and then another day to drive from Texas to Louisiana to pick them up.

I remember seeing Missy and Sophie’s pictures and thinking how cute they both were — one was black and white and the other was red and white. Both were girls, and I had already decided that if and when I got another dog, it would be a girl next time. Anyway, I talked to my mother, who lives with me due to health reasons, and we both decided that we just had to take them, so I called my friend to let her know.

I got home with them really late on a Tuesday night, as it was a long drive. I had collected them in a crate with little else, and they were very quiet all the way to their new home. When we arrived, they were scared, nervous, and exhausted, but once I brought them into the house and [they] realized they had room to play and a backyard, they were so happy! Walks with them were interesting, as they had never gone on walks before. It took a lot of patience on my part, and a lot of maturing on their part, but we are one big, happy family now.

I am so glad that I said yes to Missy and Sophie in their time of need. They are the sweetest little pups I know — they greet me when I come home from work, they can’t wait until I sit down in my chair at night and they both have to be on me. Then, of course, we all sleep together and play all the time. It’s also great that they’re with my mom during the day, because I think they help keep her from being lonely. I love my girls and can’t imagine my life without them.”

When it comes to opening our hearts, no one does it better than a dog — in this case, two little pups who knew just what their mommy needed to smile once more. Kate may not be able to imagine life without her girls, but I’ll bet her girls can’t imagine their lives without her, either!
