Make This Puppy Lucky: Nugget the Pit Bull-Boxer-Bulldog Mix

This uber-smart bully girl loves to play and is looking for an active, fun-loving family.

Nugget is a big, silly ball of love who has never met a stranger she didn’t like! This uber-smart bully girl loves to play, whether it’s in the water or with toys, a ball, other dogs, or even squirrels (although they never seem that interested in accepting her invitation). Oh, and did we mention she loves everybody?

Name: Nugget.

Age and sex:  14-month-old female.

Breed: Staffordshire TerrierBoxerBulldog mix.

Size and weight: Large and 60 pounds.

Coat: Short, blonde, and white.

Location: Austin Dog Rescue.

Activity level: Medium. Nugget can be energetic but also can be calm when appropriate.

Likes: Treats, playing fetch, playing in water, other dogs, walks, toys, mud, and chasing squirrels.

Dislikes: Not being able to play, and the stuffing inside of plush toys (it’s her job to pull it out!).

Training: Nugget is house-trained and crate-trained, and she knows “sit,” “shake,” “lie down,” and “no.”

Yard requirements: Since Nugget loves to chase squirrels, a fenced yard would be recommended to keep her safe.

Kids: Loves children, but because of her size and strength would be best with kids 10 years and older.

Dogs and cats: Good with both.

Health issues: Nugget recently had knee surgery to repair a Grade 3 patellar luxation and to remove a histiocytoma (benign skin tumor), but is healing well and ready for adoption. Otherwise, this pup is very healthy!

Her story: Nugget came to Austin Dog Rescue from a rural shelter on April 3, 2015. She was emaciated and had skin infections, fleas, ticks, and open wounds from advanced demodex mange. Once her skin healed, it was discovered that she had the knee issue that would require surgery.

Her ideal forever home: Nugget likes spending as much time as possible with her humans and would love a family who would include her in as many activities as possible, such as walks, hikes, car rides, and road trips.

Other details prospective adopters should know: Nugget is on a grain-free diet and takes supplements to help strengthen her immune system, ligaments, and bones.
