See Why This Short Film About a Three-Legged Dog Is Winning Awards

“The Present” started as a web-comic four years ago. Now it’s screening at film festivals, more than 180 so far, and taking home awards.

When a little boy receives a gift from his mother of a three-legged dog, he is less than interested and promptly ignores the pup in favor of video games. The story started out as a web-comic created by Fabio Coala. It was called “Three-Legged Dog.” Readers loved it, including Jacob Frey, who turned it into an animated film for his thesis project at Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg.
